Scout Rank Advancement completed by January 30 will be recognized at the Scout Sunday Court of Honor.  Boards of Review must be completed by January 30.

Citizenship in the Community merit badge will start at 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 30.  Scouts that are invited will be contacted.

Scout Sunday, February 4, at Faith Lutheran Church.  All Scouts and their families are invited to attend the 10:30 a.m. Church Service and the luncheon that will follow.  There will also be a brief Friends of Scouting presentation in addition to a Court of Honor.  We ask that the Scouts and families arrive at 10:15 so that we can all sit together.  This service is in the Fellowship Hall.  For the luncheon, we ask each family to bring a salad or a dessert.  If your last name starts with A-M, bring a dessert and if your last name starts with N-Z, please bring a salad.  The Troop will furnish pizza, juice, coffee, plates, cups, napkins, and utensils.

A Troop 390 Philmont Contingent meeting for Scouts and Parents will be January 30 after the Troop Meeting.  Payment of fees will be discussed as well as the itinerary for practice hikes and outings.  Each participant should have paid the Troop $200 and the Council $450 by now.  Checks can be given to Mr. Horvath to pay either fee.  Make out your check accordingly.  The Troop paid the application fee initially to hold the Trek.  Four additional payments of $225 are 9/1/06, 12/1/06, 3/2/07 and 4/20/07.   I have the Council payment status of each Scout.

OP District Scouts in Government Day is Thursday, February 8, at Fairlawn Community Center.  The Troop can nominate up to 5 Scouts for this event.  Scouts must be in grades 8 through 12.  It is a great opportunity to be mentored by an area public official or law-enforcement officer.  Arrangements to miss school for the day are up to the Scout and his family.  Interested Scouts must talk to Mr. Horvath.

2007 Old Portage District “Caribbean Klondike” is at Camp Butler February 9-11.  Yes, we do sleep in tents!  The Klondike is the best attended camping event of the year for the District.  All Troops in the District attend.  It is a Patrol competition among all of the Troops.  The events focus on activities involving Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class rank requirements with a few twists and a lot of fun.  We will be practicing for this at the meetings between now and then.  Permission slips are required.  Cost is $20 (includes District fee for event and patch).

Troop Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser is Saturday, March 3.  Kathy and Rick Herbert are chairing the event this year.  It will be similar to past years with the dinner and a bake sale.  Scouts are the servers and parents are the cooks and gophers.  It is a fun time and very important to the Troop.  Remember this is one of the required fundraisers to participate in to avoid paying the registration fee in March.  Kathy and Rick will send more information to the Troop Families soon.

Laurel Caverns in Pa. is the location of the March 23-25 campout.  We camp in their campgrounds and the Scouts get a chance to earn Geology or Forestry Merit Badge.  More information will be coming soon.

Acme Cash Back Receipts.  Please save your Acme cash register receipts and bring them to the Troop meetings.  Put the Scout’s name on the top of each cash register receipt.  Cash Back cash register receipts must be dated between September 17, 2006 and April 7, 2007.  The Troop will get 5% of the Cash Back amount shown on the bottom of each tape.  Scouts will get credit for participating.  This year, the Cash Back is increased from 1% to 5% but applies only to store brands: Dining-In, Domestix, Food Club, Paws, Top Care, Top Crest and ValuTime.  The Troop must have all receipts by April 21.

The Akron Headstart Program Christmas "Giving Tree" project for the Troop was a terrific success!  Thank you to everyone who participated.

Troop Code of Conduct was sent home a couple months ago.  Each Scout and parents are to read and sign and return to the Troop.  It is important that everyone know and acknowledge the Scout’s responsibilities within the Troop and possible consequences for failure to follow the Code of Conduct.  Please sign and return the paper.  If it has been misplaced or a Scout was absent that meeting, the Code of Conduct is available at the Troop meetings.  Thanks!
