SUMMER CAMP WAS GREAT TIME FOR SCOUTS.
Family night was huge success!
Best guess is that we had 200 people in camp Wednesday evening. A big “Thank
You” to everyone that helped make it a memorable week.
TROOP ANNUAL PLANNING SESSION WAS HELD
TUESDAY, AUGUST 7. Calendars for
the Scout year September 2007 through August 2008 will be available in
September.
ACTIVITIES NEEDING YOUR ATTENTION ARE:
1. Troop Meeting Tuesday, August 14, will be a hike at the Hampton Hills Metro Park. The park is on Akron-Peninsula Road between Bath Road and Steels Corners Road. Scouts should meet in the parking lot at Hampton Hills at 6:30 p.m. and be picked up at 8:30. Scouts should bring water bottle, compass and insect repellant. This is an opportunity for Scouts to complete Second Class Requirement #1b and First Class Requirement #2. Scouts must read the sections of the Scout Handbook pertaining to these requirements and come prepared.
2. THERE WILL BE NO TROOP MEETING AUGUST 21 OR 28. THE LEADERS NEED TO REST UP FOR THE NEXT YEAR OF SCOUTING!
3. Hale Farm service project and campout is August 11-12. Scouts and adults are needed to cook hamburgers and hot dogs and serve the Civil War re-enactors at Hale Farm, Saturday. Preparation and cooking will start at 3:00 p.m., and will probably go to about 7:00. We expect to feed 350 people. That is why ADULTS ARE NEEDED! In return, Scouts and family members who volunteer will be given admission to Hale Farm for the whole day. Then after the dinner is served and cleaned up, Scouts will be permitted to camp on the grounds of the farm Saturday night. Saturday evening will be a campfire and sing along with the re-enactors. Saturday, upon arrival, Scouts and families should come to the red Troop 390 Trailer which will be located at the rear of the Hale Farm parking lot. Volunteers will be given a wrist band which will provide them free admission to the Farm for the whole day Saturday. After dinner Scouts wishing to camp for the night will set up camp for the night. Sunday morning, parents are asked to pick up the Scouts promptly at 9:00 a.m.
4. Matthew Butlien’s Eagle Ceremony is 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 12, at the Manatoc Council Ring. A reception in the historic Manatoc Dining Hall follows. Please join the Butlien’s and the Troop for this celebration.
5. Troop bike hike August 18. Scouts meet at Botzum Trailhead on at 9:30 a.m. with bicycles, helmets and water bottles. Botzum Trailhead is on Riverview Road at Bath Road. BSA requires everyone to wear a helmet when cycling. Some way to attach the water bottle to bike or body is suggested. Parents are welcome to ride, too. However, all adults must wear a helmet, too. Ride will travel north through Peninsula to Boston Store Trailhead. Lunch will be provided there and return to Botzum Trailhead will be about 3:00 p.m. This is a preparation for a bike trek and campout September 8-9.
6. The September Bike Trek will be to ride the Towpath Trail from Vanderhoof Road Trailhead (just before Clinton) south to Navarre. We will ride to Navarre Saturday, September 8, camp at the Craig Pittman Memorial Park, just south of Navarre and ride back on Sunday. We did this last year and it worked out very well. To participate in this Bike Trek, Scouts are required participate in the Troop Bike Hike August 18 or bring their bicycle to the Troop meeting September 4 for bike inspection and Scout riding assessment. All Scouts are welcome and encouraged to participate. Parents are also welcome. An adult to drive their car, van or truck for sag wagon use is needed.
