Scout Oath

On my honor
I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the
Scout Law;
To help other people
at all times;

To keep myself
physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Troop 390 and the Boy Scouts of America have always been uniformed bodies. Its uniforms help to create a sense of belonging. They symbolize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification and commitment.

Upon joining Troop 390, the scout will be expected to obtain a uniform.  The Troop will provide the scout with his "390" unit numeral patch, Great Trail Council shoulder patch, patrol insignia and green epaulet covers (shoulder straps). Arrangements can be made with families if they have difficulty in obtaining a uniform.

Troop 390 Uniform Policy.  Scout Field Uniforms are worn at all Troop meetings and functions, including travel to and from campouts, unless otherwise specified. After Memorial Day to when school starts in the fall, scouts may wear their Troop 390 T-shirts to the Tuesday Troop meetings.  If Scouts do not wear official BSA pants or shorts, they are to wear green-colored materials.  Shoes and socks should also be green or dark-colored.  Traditionally, Troop 390 Scouts have not worn hankerchiefs, however, they may do so if they desire.

Personal equality. The uniform represents a democratic idea of equality; bringing people of different racial, economic, religious, national, ethnic, political, and geographical backgrounds together in the Scouting tradition.

Identification. The uniform identifies youth and adult members of the Boy Scouts of America, visible as a force for good in the community. When properly and smartly worn, the uniform can build good unit spirit. When worn on the correct occasions, it can attract new members.

Achievement. The uniform shows the wearer's activity, responsibility, and achievement. What each youth or adult member has accomplished with program opportunities can be recognized by the insignia worn on the uniform.

Personal commitment. The uniform is a constant reminder to all Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturers, and adults of their commitment to the ideals and purpose of the Boy Scouts of America. The uniform encourages them to take Scouting seriously because of the investment in uniforms by parents of youths and by adults. The uniform is a way of making visible members' commitment to a belief in God, loyalty to country, and helping others at all times.

The leaders of Scoutingboth volunteer and professionalpromote the wearing of the correct complete uniform on all suitable occasions.

Where do the patches go?

One of the most-asked questions by parents and scouts.

The New Official Scout Uniform

The Boy Scouts of America introduced a new uniform in the fall of 2008 that is called the "Centennial Uniform" in honor of the 100-year anniversary of BSA coming up in 2010.

The uniform is made of a new, high-performance fabic and features a toned-down color scheme of forrest green and khaki.   The new baseball cap is green all the way around with a single Scout emblem, a fleur-de-lis, monochromatically embroidered.

The Dallas Morning News recently published an article about the new Boy Scout uniform.

New Uniform Q & A

Is it okay to match parts of the new uniform with the previous uniform?
Yes.  The May 2008 New Centennial Uniform brochure states clearly:  However, each piece transitions to mix and match with your current uniform.

What color numerals do Webelos Scouts wearing the tan uniform use?
Forest green. This is shown clearly in the photos of the 2008 Uniform Guide which also states Webelos Scouts have the option of wearing the forest green and khaki uniform or the blue uniform.

What color numerals do Cub Scout adult leaders wear?
Forest green. This is shown in the 2008 Uniform Guide photos (such as the one above). However, female adult leaders wearing the yellow blouse probably still wear the red numerals.

Who still wears the red uniform numerals?
Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts if wearing the blue uniform, Venturers, Venturer adult leaders, and probably female adult leaders wearing the yellow blouse.

Who wears the new forest green loops?
Boy Scouts and adult leaders of Boy Scouts. Cub Scout adult leaders and Webelos Scouts in the khaki uniform still wear blue loops as before.

What hat does a Cub Scout adult leader wear?
According to the 2008 Adult Leader Uniform Inspection Sheet, den leaders wear the same cap as the boys in the den. Pack leaders wear the olive visor cap.
