New News For Summer Camp!

This is one of the premier events of the year for the Troop. Part of making this a roaring success is the participation of the Adults. As we do each year, we are asking for volunteers to spend time out at the camp during the week to assist the Troop Leadership. Our Summer Camp in 2008 will take place at Camp Manatoc from Sunday, July 13 through Saturday, July 19Please look over the schedule below and see if you have time to help out. We will be updating the table with the names of the volunteers as people choose their time-slots. If you can help, please contact Jim Horvath.

Early Bird payment is $190 this year and must be paid by May 13. Regular fees will be $210 if paid after May 13 and before July 6. After July 6, the late fee will be $230 (see Summer Camp Flyer). All Scouts are asked to arrive at Manatoc at 1:00 PM Sunday. We will be at the same campsite as in 2007 - Concord. It's a big campsite with a nice layout for the number of boys we have been sending this year. The parking is plentiful as well. We have 37 Scouts and 4 leaders reserved. Come in the main gate at Manatoc. Come up the road past the Administration Building and take the first road on the left. Follow the road all the way up the hill and turn right at the first road to go into the Concord parking lot. Our campsite is behind the Concord Cabin. (see Summer Camp Site Map) Everyone is to wear their uniform to camp and bring all medication in the original containers, in a Ziploc bag. If it is listed on the physical, it must be brought to camp. All medications must be within the expiration date, including inhalers. Medical rechecks and swim checks are first on the agenda. Please get your physicals completed and your medical forms turned in if needed. You can find copies on the Forms Page.

Also, check out the new Summer Camp Gear List on the forms page. This will help you pack for the week. If for some reason you need to leave summer camp for a day or part of a day, you will need to fill out a Camper Release Form beforehand. You can find one on the Forms Page. Please give to Mr. Horvath after you fill it out. The 2008 official Summer Camp Flyer can be found on the Forms Page.

Below is the chart for Adult volunteers for Summer Camp. Please call or e-mail Mr. Horvath with the times you would be able to come out and help with the boys. You can also go the the forms button and choose the Adult Summer Camp Signup spreadsheet, fill it out and send to him. Please help if you can. It takes a lot of effort to make sure our boys have a wonderful experience.

Duties of Adults augmenting Troop leadership at camp:
Period A
The first year emphasis program is for Scouts who have not been to summer camp before and who need progress toward Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. Our goal is to provide adult supervision for our Scouts to make sure they get to the program site and behave while in the program.
Period B
This period is between lunch and dinner. Scouts are supposed to rest at the campsite until 2:30 p.m. when the open activities resume on an individual basis and the Scouts are free to go in and out of the campsite. Our goal is to provide adult supervision in the campsite to monitor the activities and prevent dangerous horse play. Adults can assist Scouts with activities, too.
Period C
During the evenings the Scouts can go to programs, work on things in the campsite or just hang out. Here again the adults insure that the campsite is safe and provide counseling to the scouts.
Period D
Two deep leadership is required at all times, even at night. At this point we do not know which leaders, in addition to Mr. Horvath, will be at camp for the week. Therefore, we schedule other adults to insure we have adequate coverage at all times.
Saturday
Parents arrive at the campsite at 9:00 a.m. Scouts pack, load cars, transport Troop gear to the trailer and clean the campsite. Everyone leaves after camp inspection is complete. (Usually about 10:30 p.m.)
